Years ago, I lived in Cardiff and I had an American friend, around the corner, who was into Avon. At the time Avon used to give 'Recommendation Points' for every friend etc who joined Avon as a Rep. Each point was worth £10 to be spent in the demo magazine (I can't remember what it was called then, but now it's called First Look).
Being the business woman she was, she wanted to get as many Recommendation Points as she could, so I was cajouled into becoming a Rep! I wasn't interested, never bought from Avon and as I had 2 young children, thought I had enough on my plate without taking on Avon!
The ASM (Area Sales Manager) called around and before I had time to breathe, I was left with 20 brochures, some order forms and a Calling Book! Well that was that then. I was now an Avon Rep!
I was scared stupid to go out delivering brochures - what if people were mean to me? What if they threw he brochures back at me etc? Well I braved it, delivered the brochures and waited a few days before collecting them! That was even more nerve wracking! Well out I went and collected the brochures - I had orders! How exciting! I can't remember how much my first order was, but it was quite a bit!
Avon has changed quite a bit since those days - to order, we used to have to colour in ovals with a pencil, these days it's all online!
Once the order was finished, I had to drop my order off at somebody's house, for it to be collected and sorted, then sent to Avon via a delivery person (I think). A week later, my order arrived - it was like Christmas come early (or late, as I started in March lol).
I was hooked! I have been a rep since 1996 (with a year off in 2017). It has been a really good journey, for the most part! I have met some fabulous people, I have been to different Avon events. Although I'm not a High-flyer like some Reps - I've loved it! I doubt I will reach 'circle' (where the top 50 reps go abroad with Avon), I doubt I will be an Avon millionaire Sales Leader, but that doesn't matter because that's the beauty (no pun intended) of Avon - you can work at your own pace!
